Type A and Type B Elastic Clips in Type I and Type II Fastening Systems

In railway track construction, Type I and Type II fastening systems are widely used, with their Type A and Type B elastic clips playing a critical role in ensuring rail stability and track integrity.

Type I Fastening System Elastic Clips

The Type I system's elastic clips are divided into Type A and Type B:

Type A clips are used for the middle sections of 50 kg/m rails, while Type B clips serve joint sections. Both are made of 60Si2Mn or 55Si2Mn hot-rolled spring round steel, complying with GB1222 technical requirements, with a hardness of HRC 41–46.

In 50 kg/m rail sections, Type B clips are used only at the 14th joint gauge retainer, while Type A clips are used elsewhere.

Type A: Clamping force ≥8 kN; elastic stroke 9 mm.
Type B: Clamping force ≥9 kN; elastic stroke 8 mm.

For example, in conventional railways with 50 kg/m rail ballasted tracks, Type I system elastic clips ensure stable rail-sleeper
connections through optimal clamping force and stroke.

Type II Fastening System Elastic Clips

Although Type II system elastic clips are not explicitly divided into Type A/B, they offer superior performance:

Single clip clamping force reaches 10 kN with a 10 mm elastic stroke-upgraded from Type I-to better adapt to forces generated by train operation.

Under-rail pad static stiffness is 55–80 kN/mm (standard sections) and 40–60 kN/mm (rail joint sections), optimizing track elasticity and buffering.

Suitable for 60 kg/m rail seamless lines, the Type II system functions in speed-up upgraded conventional railways and some high-speed railways. Its stronger clamping force and stroke ensure track reliability under higher speeds and heavier traffic.

Conclusion

The Type A/B elastic clips in Type I/II fastening systems are designed to meet requirements of railway line conditions, rail types, train speeds, and traffic volumes:

Type I's A/B clips widely apply to 50 kg/m rail lines, satisfying general railway transport.

Type II's clips excel in 60 kg/m rail seamless lines, enhancing track stability and adaptability.

Together, they safeguard railway track safety and drive railway transportation development.
