As a key component ensuring railway track stability, the Type I fastening system requires critical routine maintenance. Standardized and meticulous upkeep ensures long-term stable operation, providing a solid foundation for safe and smooth train travel.
Regular Inspection of Fastening Status
Check component tightness: Routinely inspect elastic clips, spiral spikes, and other parts. Elastic clips must tightly clamp rails to prevent loosening, deformation, or detachment. If clamping force is insufficient (below 8 kN for 50 kg/m rails), adjust or replace immediately.
Tighten spiral spikes: Verify for looseness and tighten to 80–120 N·m torque (120–150 N·m for curves with radius ≤650m) to avoid system failure from spike looseness.

Component Wear and Damage Monitoring
Inspect for wear:
Examine elastic clips, gauge retainers, and retainer seats for wear or damage.
Replace cracked, deformed, or severely worn elastic clips to maintain clamping effectiveness.
Replace deformed or fractured gauge retainers to ensure proper gauge adjustment.
Renew overly worn retainer seats to preserve buffering and support functions.
Replace rubber padding plates: Update aged, cracked, or non-elastic pads to maintain shock absorption and prevent rigid contact damage to track components.
Cleaning and Rust Prevention
Debris removal: Regularly clean fasteners and sleepers of debris, dust, oil, and rust, as accumulation can impair functionality and accelerate corrosion.
Rust protection: Apply anti-rust paint or grease to metal parts (e.g., spiral spikes, elastic clips), especially in humid or coastal environments, to extend service life.

Track Geometry Adjustment
Monitor gauge and level: If gauge deviation occurs, correct by adjusting gauge retainers. For minor height irregularities, use elevating pads (total thickness ≤10 mm, ≤2 pads). Severe issues require track lifting and tamping.
Initial operation checks: Pay special attention to fastener loosening or track irregularities from under-rail pad compression or residual deformation, and take prompt corrective action.
Collaboration with Large-scale Track Maintenance
Before tamping operations: Remove all elevating pads to avoid affecting tamping efficiency.
After tamping: Reinstall elevating pads as needed to restore track geometry, addressing minor irregularities in height or level.

Maintenance must strictly follow relevant standards, with trained personnel performing duties carefully to keep the Type I system in optimal condition.
