Track anchors or track anti-creepers are spring steel clips that are fixed to the underside of the track pad and against the sides of the sleepers. The purpose of a track anchor is to prevent the rail from moving longitudinally due to temperature changes or vibrations.
The rail anchor is installed directly on the rail base and rests against the sleeper. The rail anchor can provide a large bearing surface to the rail base and sleeper, preventing cutting and wear, and ultimately extending the service life of the sleeper. The rail anchor is manufactured according to the specific rail weight and base width, and can be divided into two types: driven rail anchor and spring-loaded rail anchor.
Types of Track Anchors
The track anchors are manufactured in one piece from spring steel or equivalent material, heat treated to eliminate track creep. The track anchors provide a large bearing surface on the rail base and sleeper, avoiding cutting and wear, thus extending the service life of the wooden sleepers.

Application Rules of Rail Anchors
How to use the rail anchors? There are general rules on the application of rail anchors:
Rail anchors should be on the gage side of the rail base against the same tie face on opposite rails.
Rail anchors have to hold the rail base tightly and firmly and have full bearing against rail tie face.
A new rail anchor and a rail tie will be needed when the bearing of rail anchor against the tie has been disturbed.
Anchors shall not be moved by driving them along the rail.
The rail ties should be kept straightened when the anchors are applied.
