Rail fastening system is used for fastening the steel rail and railway sleeper. The function of rail fastening system is to maintain the gauge and prevent the vertical and horizontal movement of rails relative to the position of the sleeper. A fastening system is usually consist of rail tie plate, spike, clip, rail anchor or other fasteners.

Rail clip, or called elastic rail clip, is used to fasten steel rails to the underlying tie plate. Through bending and distortion, rail clip can put pressure on the rail, which prevents longitudinal movement of the rail, either from changes in temperature or through vibration. In general, rail clips are made of forged spring steel produced by hot forging process.

Railroad anchor
Rail anchors made in one-piece construction from spring steel are designed to fasten the steel rail tight on the base of the rail to prevent the rail from longitudinal movements, i.e. the " creeping" of the rail, caused by changing temperature, grades, traffic patterns, and braking action of trains.
