What is Railway Track Material?
Railway track material primarily consists of hardened, high-carbon steel (often with manganese, silicon, chromium) formed into inverted T-shaped rails that provide a durable surface for trains, supported by sleepers (wood, concrete, steel) resting on ballast (crushed stone) for stability, drainage, and load distribution, all resting on a prepared subgrade. Key components include the steel rails, sleepers, fasteners, and ballast, engineered for strength, wear resistance, and load-bearing capacity.

- Rails: The parallel steel beams; typically medium to high carbon steel (e.g., 0.7-0.8% Carbon) with manganese (0.8-1.2%) for hardness and wear resistance, sometimes alloyed with vanadium, chromium, or molybdenum for enhanced performance.
