What is 115RE Rail?

Jan 23, 2026 Leave a message

A steel rail is a hardened steel profile installed in pairs to create a guided rolling corridor, allowing steel wheels to travel efficiently while transferring forces safely to the underlying track structure. Its function is both directional and structural. GNEE RAIL offers rails in all mainstream standards, covering GB 8–60 kg/m, UIC50/54/60, DIN536 A55–A120, QU70/80/100/120, JIS 15KG–CR100, AS1085 31–89 kg, BS11:1985, and AREMA/ASCE 25–175 lb, and provides logistics coordination, accessory supply, and installation support.

What is 115RE Rail?

115RE Rail is a heavy-duty American standard (AREMA) steel rail, weighing approximately 115 pounds per yard (56.9 kg/m), also known as TR57 rail, used for high-traffic mainlines, industrial, and mining railways due to its high strength, durability, and wear resistance for heavy axle loads.

AREMA standard TR57 (115RE) steel rail is used for state railway line or factory railway line, we can provide the material of R260, 320Cr or R350HT or other materials you required, length 12-36 meters, customization service is avalible, welcome to contact us to talk the details.

115 re rail drawings:

  • Head width: 69.06 mm means the distance between the extremities of the rail head, governing wheel-rail contact conditions and overall load-bearing capacity.

  • Base width: 139.7 mm is the width of the rail base, critical for stability and bearing performance on sleepers/ties.

  • Overall height: 168.28 mm The vertical distance from the base to the head top. For 115RE steel grade, this height provides adequate bending strength for light to medium-heavy duty operations while maintaining structural stability at higher speeds or under heavier axle loads.

  • Web thickness: 15.88 mm which is essential for torsional resistance and impact performance. The 15.88-mm web improves overall structural integrity and enhances resistance to lateral and longitudinal deformation.

Key Characteristics of 115 re rail :

  • Standard: Meets American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards.

  • Weight: Nominal weight of 115 pounds per yard (56.9 kg/m).

  • Type: Heavy rail, ideal for demanding applications.

  • Material: Typically made from high-strength steel grades, often heat-treated for enhanced performance.

  • Synonyms: Also called 115lb rail or TR57 rail.

What is the difference between 115RE Rail and GB 60KG Rail?

The main difference is their standard, with 115RE being an American (AREMA) standard rail (approx. 56.9 kg/m) suited for heavy-haul, while GB 60KG rail is a Chinese standard, equivalent to European UIC 60 (approx. 60 kg/m) for high-speed and heavy-duty lines, differing in profile dimensions, material grades (like R260 vs. UIC/EN grades), and application focus, though both are heavy, robust rails for demanding service.

115RE Rail (American Standard - AREMA)

heavy rail

  • Weight: ~115 pounds per yard, or ~56.9 kg/m.

  • Standard: AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association).

  • Characteristics: Higher strength, hardness, and fracture resistance compared to lighter rails, used for heavy-haul and high-speed lines in North America.

  • Profile: Specific dimensions (head, web, base) defined by AREMA standards, with a web thickness of ~15.88 mm.

GB 60KG Rail (Chinese/European Standard)

light rail

  • Weight: ~60 kg/m (GB stands for Guobiao, Chinese National Standard).

  • Standard: Chinese GB standards, closely aligns with European UIC 60 standards (60E1).

  • Characteristics: High tensile strength (≥780MPa) for high-speed and heavy-haul applications, balancing cost and performance.

  • Profile: Different dimensions than 115RE (e.g., ~172mm height, ~74.3mm head width, ~150mm base width, ~16.5mm web thickness).
