The railway fastener system is one of the core links to ensure the smooth operation of trains. It provides basic support for the smoothness of the track through multiple mechanisms, but it needs to work together with other track systems to achieve a stable effect.
In terms of rail positioning, the fastener system firmly fixes the rails on the sleepers through the constant clamping force of the spring bar (usually 12-15kN), preventing the rails from jumping up and down or shifting left and right when the train passes. The precise design of the gauge baffle can control the gauge error within ±2mm, and with the precise setting of the rail bottom slope (1:40), it ensures the stability of the contact position between the wheel tread and the rail head, reduces the lateral vibration caused by the wheel-rail impact, and provides basic geometric conditions for the smooth operation of the train.

The elastic buffer function has a significant impact on stability. The high-quality spring bar is made of 60Si2MnA spring steel and has ideal elastic deformation capacity. When the train passes, the spring bar can absorb more than 30% of the vertical vibration energy, so that the vertical displacement of the rail is controlled within 1mm. This buffering effect can effectively attenuate the high-frequency vibration generated by wheel-rail contact, prevent vibration from being transmitted to the train body through the track structure, reduce the bumpy feeling of the carriage, and especially reduce the discomfort caused by wheel-rail noise and vibration when driving at high speed.

Under complex working conditions, the dynamic stability of fasteners is crucial. The reinforced spring bars (with buckle pressure increased to 18kN) used in the curve section can resist greater centrifugal force and prevent the rail from shifting to the outside of the curve; the anti-climbing device and fasteners in the long and steep slope section can limit the longitudinal displacement of the rail to 3mm/24h, avoiding train impact caused by uneven changes in the rail joint. These designs ensure that the track maintains structural stability under dynamic loads and provides a continuous and smooth running surface for the train.

It should be noted that the fastener system needs to work in conjunction with the track foundation, ballast, etc. If the ballast is hardened or the sleepers fail, it is difficult to fully guarantee stability with fasteners alone. However, when the track system is in normal condition, fasteners that meet performance standards can provide key guarantees for the smooth operation of trains through the triple functions of precise positioning, elastic buffering and dynamic stability. They are an indispensable core component in track smoothness control.
