How to install a rail elastic clip?

To install a rail elastic clip, first place the rail on the tie plate with the necessary pads and insulators. Then, use a tool to press the clip into the shoulder on the baseplate, ensuring the toe of the clip rests on the rail and the heel rests on the shoulder. Installation can be done manually with a hammer or by using specialized mechanical equipment.

Step 1: Prepare the base and rail

• Ensure the area is clean and free of debris.

• Place the tie pad on the sleeper seat, followed by the rail and any necessary insulators.

• If the sleeper has pre-embedded shoulders, make sure the insulators are fully seated against the base of the rail.

Step 2: Position the elastic clip

• Start the clip from one side of the shoulder.

• Position it so the toe of the clip is on the side of the rail and the heel is on the shoulder of the baseplate.

Step 3: Drive the clip

• Manual installation: Use a sledgehammer to carefully drive the clip into place.

• Mechanical installation: Use a mechanical press to drive the clip to the correct specifications.

• Final positioning: Drive the clip until the correct pressure is reached. A common guideline is to leave a gap of approximately 3/8" (about the diameter of a pencil) between the edge of the shoulder and the rear arch of the clip.

Step 4: Verify the installation

• After installation, verify the clip is properly seated and the desired buckle pressure is achieved.

• For systems that use bolts, tighten the anchor bolts to secure the baseplate.

• Check the gauge and height adjustments as needed by loosening the bolts, moving the baseplate, and re-tightening.
