Railway fish plate, also called rail joint or splice bar, is a metal bar connected to the ends of two railroad rails to join them together. As an important part of rail components, railway fish plates are widely used both in light rail and heavy rail to guarantee the safety of railroad transportation.
In rail track system, railway fish plates are important components to joint two steel rails together. In a real world application, there are three commonly used types of railway fish plates:

- Compromise joints
- Insulated joints
For railway fish plate, the bolted joints are usually used to join steel rails together before they are welded. As to joining two steel rails with differing sections, the compromise joints are mostly used. And the insulated rail joints are always used as the bonded or non-bonded joints.
