Difference Between Rail Tie Plates And Railway Rubber Pads

Railroad Tie Plate (also known as base plates or sole plates) are installed between the rail and the sleeper. They serve to secure the rail, maintain correct gauge, and transfer vertical and lateral loads to the sleeper. They protect wooden or concrete sleepers from wear and cutting, and are typically fastened using track bolts, spikes, and elastic rail fasteners. GNEE RAIL supplies various types of sleeper plates, including single-shoulder, double-shoulder, and hook-type double-railroad tie plates, with customization available based on client requirements.

≥100lb
Hook twin tie plate turnout

Rubber Pads (also referred to as elastic pads) are primarily used with concrete sleepers to reduce fatigue cracking and absorb train impacts. They cushion vertical and lateral loads, provide insulation, and improve contact between the sleeper and rail seat. GNEE RAIL manufactures rubber pads using materials such as natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), neoprene, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), or EVA. These pads are compatible with various fastening systems, including E-type clip systems and SKL fastening systems.

Compared to Rail Iron Plate, railway rubber pads focus on shock absorption, wear resistance, and long-term durability, while baseplates emphasize load distribution and gauge stability. Proper installation of both railway tie plates and rubber pads, along with fasteners, elastic clips, and bolts, ensures safe and efficient railway operation.
