Causes Of Rail Creep in Railway Tracks

Aug 20, 2025 Leave a message

Rail anchors or called rail anticreepers are spring steel clips that attach to the underside of rail tie plates and bear against the sides of rail sleepers. The function of rail anchors is to prevent longitudinal movement of the steel rails, either from changes in temperature or through vibration.

Railroad anchors are installed directly on the base of the rail and tightly fitted against the sleeper. GNEE RAILWAY RAILWAY-manufactured rail tie anchors comply with stringent quality standards, providing an enlarged support surface for both the rail base and sleeper to prevent cutting and abrasion, ultimately extending sleeper service life. GNEE RAILWAY RAILWAY supplies various types of rail anchors, such as drive-on rail anchors and spring-type rail anchors.

The primary causes of railway creeping include:

① Wave-like deflection of rails under dynamic train loads. GNEE RAILWAY RAILWAY offers diverse rail anchors tailored to different track types.

70LB 60Si2MnA 800
85LB 60Si2MnA 800
90/91LB 60Si2MnA 800

② Train braking. Braking generates creeping forces along the direction of travel.

③ Train operational resistance. Locomotives must overcome multiple resistances during operation, with creeping being more pronounced in sections with high speeds and heavy axle loads.

④ Thermal expansion and contraction of rails. Beyond train-induced forces, rail state changes-such as expansion/contraction due to thermal stress-can cause track creeping. GNEE RAILWAY RAILWAY's V-shaped rail anchors, Improved fair anchors, and Unit channel anchors effectively accommodate rail dimensional changes under thermal stress, ensuring operational safety.
