Laying Procedures for Concrete Railway Sleepers
Concrete sleepers are widely employed due to their extended lifespan, stability, and ability to meet high-speed and high-capacity requirements. The laying process for concrete sleepers involves the following steps:
Pre-Construction Activities
Before commencing construction, necessary formalities must be completed. This includes testing anchoring pull-out forces, selecting appropriate rails, and ensuring the availability of necessary equipment.
Safety Regulations for Sleeper Handling and Loading
Highway Transportation: Sleeper transportation via highways should utilize vehicles with a fixed frame. The chosen vehicles must be compatible with sleeper size, ensuring a load of fewer than 6 layers. Tight lashings are required after loading to prevent movement during transit.
Railway Transportation: Loading of sleepers for railway transportation should adhere to an approved loading plan provided by the railway department.
Handling Guidelines: Lifting a concrete sleeper should involve the coordinated effort of four workers. Strict adherence to safety protocols is crucial during loading – touching, striking, throwing, or twisting sleepers is strictly prohibited to prevent any threat to equipment and personnel safety.
