How to choose a suitable railway fastener system

Jul 22, 2025 Leave a message

The selection of a suitable railway fastener system needs to be combined with the characteristics of the track and the working conditions. Accurate selection can be achieved through multi-dimensional parameter matching to avoid excessive or insufficient performance.

First, the rail type and load level must be clarified. Heavy rails of 60kg and above are suitable for 10.9-grade bolts and spring clips with a buckle pressure of ≥15kN (such as Type III spring clips) to ensure that they can withstand axle loads of 25t and above; 30kg light rails can use 8.8-grade bolts and light spring clips (buckle pressure 8-12kN) to match axle loads below 10t. At the same time, compatible fasteners should be selected according to the material of the rail. For example, U75V heavy rails need to be equipped with heat-treated spring clips to avoid rail head damage caused by mismatch in material hardness.

Working environment is a key consideration. Hot-dip galvanized anti-corrosion fasteners (zinc layer thickness ≥ 85μm) are preferred in humid or coastal areas, and salt spray resistance must be more than 72 hours; in high-cold areas, the impact energy of the spring bar must be ≥ 27J at - 40℃ to prevent low-temperature brittle fracture; in dusty scenes such as mines, fasteners with dust covers should be selected to reduce the accumulation of foreign matter affecting the fastening force.

Structural adaptability requires attention to installation details. For curved sections, baffles with a gauge adjustment of ≥ ±12mm must be selected, and reinforced spring bars (with a 20% increase in buckle pressure) must be used to resist centrifugal force; fasteners for seamless line sections must have a longitudinal resistance adjustment function, and work with anti-climbers to control rail displacement ≤ 3mm/24h; urban light rails must give priority to shock-absorbing fasteners with a vertical stiffness of ≤ 30kN/mm to reduce wheel-rail noise.

Economic balance cannot be ignored. Modular fastener systems can be used for new lines to reduce later maintenance costs; economic fasteners can be used for temporary tracks to ensure that the foundation is fastened. At the same time, the full life cycle cost needs to be calculated. For example, although the purchase price of anti-corrosion fasteners is 30% higher, the comprehensive cost within the 15-year replacement cycle is reduced by 40%.

The final selection needs to be verified through load simulation tests to ensure that the stress distribution of the fastener system under dynamic conditions is uniform, forming a stable whole with the rails and sleepers, and achieving the comprehensive goal of "performance adaptation, cost control, and convenient maintenance".
