For standard gauge railways using Ss series or DHS series screw spikes, the four-spike configuration is commonly applied to ensure the rail remains stable under high-speed and heavy-load conditions. In heavy-haul railways or curved track sections, up to six screw spikes may be used to strengthen the sleeper-to-rail connection.
