How does the rail tie plate interact with the rail spike?
A rail spike secures the rail tie plate to the railway tie, and the tie plate, in turn, holds the rail in place. The spike goes through holes in the tie plate, with the spike's head pressing down on the plate to hold it firmly against the tie. This interaction keeps the rail from moving side-to-side and maintains the correct spacing (gauge) between rails, while also helping to distribute the weight from the rail to the tie.

How the components work together?
- Spike's role: The rail spike, which can be a cut spike or a screw spike, is driven into the wooden tie through a hole in the tie plate. Its primary purpose is to prevent the tie plate from shifting and to hold the plate securely against the tie.
- Tie plate's role: The tie plate sits between the rail and the tie. It has shoulders on its top surface that keep the rail from moving sideways and a flat, canted surface to properly position the rail.

- Load distribution: The tie plate spreads the immense load from the rail over a larger area of the wooden tie, which prevents the tie from being damaged.
- Holding the gauge: By using spikes to fasten the tie plate to the tie, the system ensures the rail is held at the correct distance from the other rail (the gauge), which is critical for safety.

Base Plates for KPO Fastening System
A rail base plate is a key part in KPO fastening system to support the rail and fix the whole fastening systems, tied onto the rail with rail bolts and railroad spikes.

Single Shoulder Tie Plate
For the tie plates of single shoulder, the shoulder is designed at the field end of the plate. The plate's short end or gauge end is placed inside of the rail track, and that why the rail base width is always required from clients. Single shoulder tie plates are usually used by rails weights running from 56lb though 100 lb.
