What Specifications Of Rails Should Be Selected For Coal Mine Transportation

In coal mine transportation, the selection of rail specifications directly affects transportation efficiency and safety, and needs to be considered comprehensively from multiple aspects.

Transportation volume is the primary consideration. In the main transportation lanes with large coal production and frequent transportation, the daily transportation volume can reach thousands of tons or even tens of thousands of tons. In order to ensure that the rails can bear long-term and stable loads, heavy rails such as 38kg/m and 43kg/m are required. This type of rail has a large unit length weight and high strength. It can withstand the heavy load impact caused by the frequent passage of a large number of mine cars, effectively reducing the risk of rail deformation and breakage. For auxiliary transportation lines with smaller transportation volumes such as mining area lanes and connecting lanes, 18kg/m and 24kg/m light rails can meet the needs. They are light in weight, low in cost, and more convenient to install and maintain.

The vehicle axle weight has a significant impact on the selection of rail specifications. Medium and large transportation vehicles in coal mines, such as bottom-dumping mine cars with a load of more than 15 tons, can have an axle weight of 10 tons or even higher, and high-strength rails are required to disperse the pressure. At this time, rails with specifications of 30kg/m and above should be selected. With a larger cross-section and higher material strength, the rails will not be plastically deformed when bearing high axle loads. If the vehicle axle weight is light, such as a small material transport mine car, rails with specifications of 15-22kg/m can be adapted to achieve a balance between economy and practicality.

The special environment of coal mines is also an important reference. In tunnels with more humid and corrosive gases, rails are easily corroded. In addition to selecting corrosion-resistant materials, the specifications need to be appropriately increased to enhance the rails' ability to resist corrosion and loss. For example, a line that was originally suitable for using 24kg/m rails can use 30kg/m rails in consideration of corrosion factors. In addition, in tunnels with large slopes and many bends, the lateral force of the mine car on the rails is large. Rails with higher specifications and better stability, such as 38kg/m rails, should be selected to improve the overall strength and deformation resistance of the rails and ensure safe and efficient operation of coal mine transportation.
