Requirements of Rail Joint and Steel Rail

The following are important quality and safety standards for rail joints and rail tracks, let us see them together.

Surface Condition: The surface of both the rail joint and rail track should be free from cracks, looseness, and corrosion to ensure structural integrity and safety.

Straightness: Rail joints must be straight without any twisting or bending, which could compromise track stability and lead to operational issues.

Abrasion Limits: The maximum allowable abrasion thickness on the rail head and sides is 3mm, and the surface should be free from any scars to maintain proper track geometry and reduce wear on rolling stock.

Alignment: Lateral displacement and height deviation at the jointing position of two steel rails should not exceed 1mm to maintain track alignment and smooth train operation.

Fastening: Rail joints must be securely fastened to the steel rails using rail bolts. A minimum of 4 rail bolts is required, although 6 bolts are preferable for enhanced stability and safety.

Sleeper/Tie Plate Placement: Proper placement of sleepers or tie plates under the jointing position of two steel rails is necessary to distribute load and maintain track stability.

Switch Machine Installation: The shell of the rail joint installing switch machine should be free from cracks, and the installation must be firm, ensuring proper locking conditions to facilitate safe and reliable switch operation.

Oil Tank Circuit Protection: The oil tank circuit must be protected from damage and should not be buried by ballasts or debris, ensuring the integrity of signaling and control systems.
