Introduction to Grinding Seamless Rails

Seamless railway lines, comprised of long welded rails extending over several kilometers, pose a challenge in managing stress release during thermal expansion and contraction. Without proper stress relief mechanisms, the internal stresses induced by temperature fluctuations can lead to rail deformation, twisting, and potential safety hazards in railway operations.

To address this issue, stress relief and rail temperature locking procedures are implemented before welding long rails in seamless railway lines.

Rails

  • Stress Dispersion

This process involves extending and retracting the rails within a suitable temperature range, counteracting the internal stresses generated by temperature changes. By dispersing these stresses, the risk of rail deformation and breakage is mitigated.

  • Rail Temperature Locking

Rails are locked within a temperature range determined by the annual maximum and minimum temperature values of the region where the railway is laid. By fixing the rails within this temperature range, even as thermal expansion and contraction occur, the resulting stresses remain within permissible limits. This prevents excessive strain on the rails and minimizes the risk of deformation or failure.

By implementing stress relief and temperature locking measures, seamless railway lines can effectively manage the challenges associated with thermal expansion and contraction. This ensures the safe and reliable operation of the railway system, minimizing disruptions and enhancing passenger and freight transport efficiency.
