What are the applications of railway pads in rail fastening systems?

Dec 22, 2025 Leave a message

The rail pad, also known as bottom plate, is an elastic polyurethane pad assembled between the rails and sleeper to protect the top of the sleeper from wear and impact. The initial stiffness of the rail pad is not so high that the deformation of the rails under the load of the spring is very large. This mechanism ensures that the rail pad moves as close as possible to realize close contact with the track.

What are the applications of railway pads in rail fastening systems?

Railway pads in fastening systems primarily buffer vibrations and shocks from trains, protecting sleepers and the track bed, while also distributing loads, reducing noise, preventing wear, and providing electrical insulation for signaling systems, enhancing overall track stability, safety, and longevity for both high-speed and conventional rail.

Rail pads for E-type rail fastening systems

rail fastening

Rail rubber pads used for E-type rail fastening systems are with the similar functions of the rail insulators to insulate the rail above it from the tie sleepers lied below it, for effective protection against vibration and structure-borne noise as well. The rail pad works together with e-clips, rail insulators/insulated gauge blocks and rail shoulders/embedded parts to form a whole set of E-type rail fastening system.

Rail pads for SKL rail fastening systems

rail fasteners

A rail pad in a SKL rail fastening system is a small but crucial fastener part, working together with SKL clips, screw spikes, plastic dowels, guide plates and so on. The elastic rail pads we produce possess a defined stiffness and demonstrably increase the elasticity of the track superstructure. With a higher level of elasticity, it contributes towards quiet running of the rolling stock, to meet today's acoustic requirements on railway lines.

What is the function of a railroad pad?

A railroad pad's main functions are to cushion and protect track components by reducing impact, vibration, and noise from passing trains, while also distributing wheel loads over a wider area to decrease stress, wear, and fatigue on sleepers (ties) and ballast, ultimately extending track life and improving ride comfort. They act as an elastic layer between the rail and the sleeper/baseplate, absorbing shock and preventing direct contact that causes damage.

  • The load distribution covering a larger surface area
  • Reducing load concentration and usage fatigue stress
  • Even contact area between the rail and supporting components
  • Reducing noise and structural vibrations
  • Sealing function between the top support and rail bottom
  • Reducing rail wearing and relevant supporting components

GNEE RAIL provides exceptional elastic rail pads of various types for high-speed railways, normal-speed railways, and cranes. Especially the rail pads made of rubber, EVA, TPEE, and HDPE are very popular with customers. Our railway rubber pads fit the rails such as UIC54, UIC60, BS80lbs, BS100lbs, etc. We have more than 130set of machines in our production lines which can reach an annual production capacity of up to 2000, 000 pieces of rail pads. We offer a wide range of rail pads and other track materials at competitive prices.
