In the huge and complex architecture of the railway system, the railway fastener system may seem to be just a "small part", but it plays a "big role" in ensuring driving safety. It is a key part to ensure the stable connection between the rails and the sleepers and maintain the geometry and stability of the track.
The railway fastener system is mainly composed of bolts, nuts, washers, gussets, spring bars and other components. These components work together to firmly fix the rails on the sleepers. The preload generated by tightening the bolts and nuts provides a strong fastening force to prevent the displacement of the rails; washers play a role in dispersing pressure and protecting the connection surface; gussets and spring bars use their own elasticity to continuously provide buckling pressure for the rails to adapt to the vibration, impact and thermal expansion and contraction generated by the train running.

In terms of type, the railway fastener system includes many different forms to meet different line conditions and usage requirements. For example, spring clip fasteners are a common type, which rely on the elastic deformation of the spring clip to maintain the clamping of the rails. They are widely used in ordinary railways and high-speed railways. In some special sections, such as bridges and tunnels, special fasteners with better anti-loosening performance may be used, such as anti-loosening nuts with special structures, which can effectively deal with vibration and loosening problems in complex environments.

Different types of railways have different requirements for fastener systems. Due to the high speed and high load of high-speed railways, the strength, durability, fatigue resistance and anti-loosening performance of fasteners are extremely stringent. Fasteners made of high-strength alloy materials and high-precision processing technology are required to ensure long-term stable operation. Ordinary railways, on the other hand, will focus more on cost-effectiveness and versatility on the basis of meeting basic fastening and safety requirements.
Although the railway fastener system is small, it is related to the safety and stability of railway operation and is an indispensable part of railway infrastructure.
